Disconnect

2021, Interactive Audiovisual Performance

This work is an interactive meditation experience, using particles to build a canvas that resemble the cosmos. As we looked into the universe we designed, we began imaging the stars resemble Brielle Writings, a language used by the visually handicapped. As if the extraterrestrial intelligence of outer space is sending a message to communicate with us. This becomes the inspiration of creating this project.

"Disconnect" is an audiovisual art project that explores the theme of poor interpersonal communication through the use of braille particles, heart rate data, and interactive elements. The artwork translates English sentences entered by the audience into braille images, while also using heart rate as a trigger for transforming sound. The project challenges the audience to express their emotions in a raw and unfiltered way, highlighting the disconnect between external expressions and internal feelings. Through the use of braille translations and sound manipulation, the audience is encouraged to communicate and connect with others on a deeper level, despite potential misunderstandings. This work is collaborated with  Chak-Lam Wong.
